What It’s Like to Work at Crabel
We’ve worked hard to build an open culture where ideas and results matter more than titles or past achievements. Our flat structure means everyone wears multiple hats. On a regular basis, employees interact with different teams, departments, and offices, including the CEO and COO.
Delivering results for our clients comes first, no question. But when it’s time for a break or celebration, we aim to make the most of our downtime. Throughout the workweek, we organize frequent events, such as seasonal cook-offs, interoffice contests, happy hours, and other team outings. We have a relaxed atmosphere; employees in our Milwaukee office frequently bring their dogs to work. We also love to stay active together. We schedule walking meetings, participate in exercise challenges, and meet outside of work for fitness classes, tennis matches, hikes, and bike rides.

From analyzing market behavior and developing trading strategies to engineering and managing the proprietary software we use to execute trades, our front office teams drive our day-to-day investing activities.
Most portfolio managers, researchers, software developers, and traders work in our Los Angeles headquarters.
Our research team uncovers insights into market behavior and uses technology to rigorously test new ideas. The team dedicates its efforts to alpha research with a focus on producing uncorrelated strategy concepts. They use predictive factors and patterns identified by machine learning techniques to enhance alpha ideas revealed through the research process and to develop unique systematic trading strategies.
They are also responsible for risk management, algorithm development, trading infrastructure programming, and exploring market challenges and opportunities.
Technological innovation is at the core of everything we do. Our software development team works tirelessly to build and fine-tune our proprietary software infrastructure and ensure the platforms we use each day perform to our expectations.
Our developers utilize different technology stacks including C++/Linux, Node.js/TypeScript, and Python to build sophisticated low-latency throughput trade execution and quantitative research platforms. They also work with data engineering, risk assessment, and various reporting and monitoring tools.
Our IT team keeps front office and operations activities at the forefront of trading operations technology. The team is responsible for the implementation and integration of various technologies, people, and processes.
Their focus on automation tools enables the firm to identify cost-savings opportunities and scale our business at a responsible rate, while also allowing us to ensure stability and consistency in our environment.
The trade desk oversees our high-volume trading activity. They monitor trades and transactions, market events and developments, and portfolio and position risk limits in real-time, 24/6.
Our traders also troubleshoot technology problems, identify process and technology inefficiencies, work with brokers and other external parties to finalize trades, and generally work to execute market transactions seamlessly.
Our operations teams oversee processes to ensure our daily investment activities run efficiently. They strive to provide the institutional quality we’ve built our reputation on.
The operations teams primarily work in our Milwaukee office.
Our client relations team creates an exceptional brand experience and provides clients with personalized support.
